Overview

## Toilet Installation & Repair: What We Cover

A toilet that runs constantly, won't flush properly, leaks from the base, or makes strange noises after flushing is more than an inconvenience — it's wasting water, risking water damage, and making your bathroom unusable. We repair and replace every type of toilet found in Manchester homes.

Our repair services cover: running toilets (usually a faulty flapper valve or fill valve), leaking toilet bases (failed wax ring or pan connector), weak or incomplete flushes (blocked rim jets or low water level), phantom flushing (internal leak allowing the cistern to slowly drain), rocking toilets (failed floor fixing or uneven floor), and cistern cracks.

For new installations, we fit close-coupled toilets, back-to-wall toilets, wall-hung toilets (with concealed cistern frames), and comfort-height toilets for accessibility. We handle all waste pipe connections, including conversion between S-trap (floor exit) and P-trap (wall exit) configurations.

We supply and install toilets from Roca, Ideal Standard, RAK Ceramics, Duravit, Villeroy & Boch, and all other major manufacturers. We're equally happy working with customer-supplied units — we just check compatibility with your waste configuration before you buy.

Why It Matters

## Why Toilet Problems Should Never Be Ignored

A constantly running toilet wastes between 200 and 400 litres of water per day. On a metered water supply, that's £200–£500 per year flowing directly into the sewer. The repair — usually a £5 flapper valve or £15 fill valve — takes less than 30 minutes. Every day you delay is money down the drain, literally.

A toilet leaking from the base creates a hygiene and structural problem simultaneously. Waste water (even small amounts) seeping around the base of the toilet saturates the flooring, encourages bacterial growth, and produces persistent odours that cleaning cannot eliminate. In upstairs bathrooms, this water can penetrate to the ceiling below, causing staining and eventual plaster failure.

A rocking toilet is a toilet about to leak. The movement breaks the seal between the pan and the waste pipe, and every flush forces a small amount of water past the compromised connection. Tightening the floor bolts sometimes resolves it, but often the subfloor around the bolts has rotted or the pan connector has perished and needs replacing.

Blocked toilets are a common emergency call. While a single blockage is usually cleared with a plunger, recurring blockages indicate a deeper problem: partial collapse of the soil pipe, tree root ingress, build-up of non-flushable items (wipes, cotton buds), or inadequate fall on the underground drainage. We diagnose the cause, not just clear the symptom.

How We Work

## Our Proven Process

1

### Diagnosis

We identify the exact cause of the problem — internal leak, faulty valve, damaged connector, or waste pipe issue. No guessing, no unnecessary replacements.

2

### Repair or Replacement Decision

We explain the problem clearly and recommend the most cost-effective solution. If a £5 part fixes it, that's what we do. We never push for a replacement when a repair will last.

3

### Fix Executed

Repairs are typically completed within the first visit. Replacements are scheduled promptly, with the new toilet usually installed the same week.

4

### Testing

We flush-test multiple times, check for leaks at every connection point, verify the fill valve stops at the correct level, and ensure the waste clears completely.

5

### Clean-Up & Guarantee

The work area is cleaned thoroughly. We provide a written guarantee on all repairs and installations.

Benefits

## What You Get When You Choose DPS

### Same-Day Repairs

Most toilet repairs are completed the same day you call. We carry common parts — fill valves, flapper valves, pan connectors, and cistern fittings — on the van.

### Honest Assessment

If your toilet needs a £5 part, we'll tell you. We don't manufacture reasons to sell you a new toilet. Our reputation depends on trust, not upselling.

### Water-Saving Upgrades

Modern dual-flush toilets use 4–6 litres per flush compared to 13 litres for older single-flush models. A new toilet can save a family of four £60+ per year on metered water.

### Wall-Hung Expertise

Wall-hung toilets require a concealed cistern frame fixed to the wall structure. We have extensive experience installing these — including the structural reinforcement needed in older properties.

### Accessibility Options

Comfort-height toilets (raised 40mm above standard) make a significant difference for elderly or mobility-impaired users. We fit these with or without grab rail systems.

### No Call-Out Fee

You only pay for the repair. Diagnosis is included in the repair cost. If we attend and the issue is minor enough for you to fix yourself, we'll show you how — no charge.

In Detail

## Toilet Types, Components & Technical Information

Understanding toilet types helps you make the right choice for your bathroom. Here's a detailed breakdown of what we install and repair across Manchester homes.

Close-coupled toilets are the most common type in UK homes. The cistern sits directly on the back of the pan, connected by a flush pipe or internal flushing mechanism. They're affordable, easy to maintain, and available in thousands of styles. The most common repairs involve the internal fill valve (which controls water filling the cistern) and the flush valve (which releases water into the bowl when you press the button).

Back-to-wall toilets conceal the cistern behind a furniture unit or inside a stud wall. The pan sits against the wall with no visible pipework. These create a cleaner aesthetic and are easier to clean around. Access to the cistern for maintenance is via a flush plate on the wall, which pops out to reveal the mechanism behind.

Wall-hung toilets are mounted on a concealed frame (such as a Geberit Duofix) fixed to the wall structure. The pan floats off the floor, making cleaning underneath effortless. These require structural consideration — the frame must be fixed to load-bearing masonry or reinforced stud walls capable of supporting the combined weight of the toilet, frame, and user (minimum 400kg load rating).

Flush mechanisms have evolved significantly. Modern dual-flush systems offer a short flush (typically 4 litres) for liquid waste and a full flush (6 litres) for solid waste. This simple technology saves the average UK household approximately 12,000 litres of water per year compared to a single-flush toilet. Flush valve types include drop valves, siphon flush (common in older toilets), and cable-operated mechanisms for concealed cisterns.

Pan connectors are the flexible or rigid fittings that connect the toilet outlet to the soil pipe. These come in straight, offset, 90-degree, and flexible variants to accommodate different positions between the toilet and the soil pipe connection point. A failing pan connector is the most common cause of toilet base leaks and sewer odours in the bathroom.

Soft-close seats are now standard on quality toilets. They use damped hinges to prevent slamming — reducing noise and extending the life of the seat and hinges. Quick-release fittings allow the seat to be removed for thorough cleaning with a single button press.

Rimless toilets have gained popularity for their hygiene benefits. Traditional toilets have a rim around the inside of the bowl where water exits during flushing — this rim harbours bacteria and is difficult to clean. Rimless designs flush water directly from the back of the pan in a sweeping pattern, coating the entire bowl surface. They're easier to keep clean and more hygienic.
